I loved where the story concluded and its overall arc. It was a lot early on, but it really clicked for me in the final act and it made me appreciate the whole far more. Plus, Jesus and Paul...I mean, they are pretty good. It turned out quite well overall. Good job by you!
"So, you know, read the book. Or don’t. As always, my greatest advice for a long and happy life consists of you reading the things that make you happy. Just don’t expect me to give a shit when you tell me I’m a terrible cook yet you’ve never been to my restaurant to try the meatloaf."
also, i just got my copy of ONCE UPON A TIME AT THE END OF THE WORLD volume 1 and i am super excited to READ THE BOOK!
I loved your Punisher run. It was first in my read pile every month (I get my comics monthly from my comic shop as it’s not close by). I loved everything about it and have no idea what discourse there might be about it as I keep my social media circle tight and don’t go on comic book websites. For me comics is always the copy in my hand and my opinion. If I don’t like something then I sell it to get money for something I do like or give to someone that might like it.
As a HUGE marvel fan, I’ve love your work on the characters (the Thor runs might just edge out Wolverine and Ghost Rider runs) and have loved Men of Wraith, sea of stars etc. I have the issues of Once upon a time at the end of the world but haven’t started them yet (the time to savour things isn’t there yet with 4 year old and 1 year old girls 🤣) and still have my scalped Trades ready to read (bought them aggggges ago but again.. life 😁). I think you’re an amazing writer and sometimes I might not like a series as much but I still like them, and it’s only because your highs to me are untouchable. Thank you for all that you write and share with us (stories or Substack) 🤘
Always will, you’re the man 👊. I was trying to see if I can wangle a way to get to thought bubble to meet you but I think the logistics are a bit too much 😂 Hopefully you’ll be at another UK con and I can get to say thanks in person
I am only up to what's been released so far on Marvel Unlimited- but your Punisher run has been fucking great so far and I liked the way it worked in concert with Chip's Daredevil story. One of the blessings of getting the fuck off Twitter when Elon took over is that I am spared from seeing most of the reams of bad faith/snark for the sake of snark sniping that went on there as a replacement for thoughtful criticism. One of the reasons why I am not particularly keen on going over to one of the Twitter replacements.
I read every issue of Punisher, and I'm glad you feel you said everything you wanted to say and that you're proud of it.
I have to admit it wasn't at all what I was expecting or what I would want in a Punisher story but I can appreciate that there were likely some editorial constraints. Or maybe not. Maybe you had carte blanche, but either way, my main issues were the new costume, the lack of grounded street-level action, the deconstruction of the Castle marriage, and the portrayal of Frank being basically a catatonic psychopath from the beginning with almost no heroic qualities. Except at the very end with the kids in Weirdworld.
But I really laughed at the "that don't make the shotgun your buddy" line. And when Maria said, "It seemed almost rude to disturb him. Like interrupting a holy man when he was busy delivering the word of God." And "FRONT TOWARD FRANK" on Strange's claymores.
Little things like that are why you're one of my favorite writers, my feelings on this story notwithstanding.
Like I said earlier, I'm glad you're happy with the result of your hard work.
Thanks for reading, Tyler. But I think you're discounting multiple moments and tragic character beats to say the story presents Frank as nothing more than a "catatonic psychopath." And no, I didn't really have any editorial constraints. The store I wrote was pretty much exactly the one I first pitched and outlined.
Right on. I guess I'm thinking mostly of him in the flashback scenes not engaging with his family or showing them any love. That was pretty tough to see.
I can't really tell you what's happening next with the character. Maybe someday I'll wanna do another Punisher story, I don't know. But for now, I'm concentrating on other stuff. Thanks for reading.
I loved your Punisher run. It felt like a breathe of fresh air in our current comics landscape. Definitely hope to get some more Southern Bastards eventually. And I love your "Comics Are For Everyone" sign, as the dad of two little girls, who had to comfort one after some boys made fun of her Avengers backpack at school, I firmly stand that COMICS ARE FOR EVERYONE! Thanks you for your stories!
Cheers. And here's sending best wishes to your girls. Hope they wear their Avengers backpacks proudly forever. Comics are most assuredly for everyone. I have a pin of that very same slogan that sits right in front of me on my work desk at all times. Thanks for reading.
Jason, I know there are politics, and things you can't discuss, but I'm going to be forever bummed not to see an ending for Southern Bastards. When we last saw it, it looked like the world was about to expand significantly - as we get to know the mayor/his wife and the political world they inhabit... Loved your Conan/King Conan.
I agree. I'd be forever bummed as well. Believe me, no one has been angrier or more frustrated through all of this than me. I thank you and all of the book's readers for their patience. I promise you, it will be rewarded. More soon.

Thanks, David. Yeah, Jesus and Paul made for a dynamite team.
It was a tremendous run, your Punisher.
Thanks. I'm really proud of it.
dear jason,
love this as always!
i particularly love this paragraph:
"So, you know, read the book. Or don’t. As always, my greatest advice for a long and happy life consists of you reading the things that make you happy. Just don’t expect me to give a shit when you tell me I’m a terrible cook yet you’ve never been to my restaurant to try the meatloaf."

much love,

Thanks for trying the meatloaf, Myq.
i would do anything for love!

Cormac wrote so well.
One of my proudest achievemnets in life is co-writing an episode of Colt Cabana's web series "Creative Has Nothing For You."
Another is receiving the Will Eisner "Spirit of Comics" Retail Award.
The third is introducing you to Malort.
If the Eisners knew you forced your visiting creators to drink Malort, they might retract that award.
Also hi, Patrick, miss y'all. Wish I'd had time to pop in when I was at ALA. Next time.
I am only up to what's been released so far on Marvel Unlimited- but your Punisher run has been fucking great so far and I liked the way it worked in concert with Chip's Daredevil story. Yeah, agreed. I can't say I'm very interested in whatever the latest Twitter substitute is.
Jason, it was great to see you over at ALA. I appreciate your work a lot and I am delighted with how your work is evolving.
Aw thanks, me too. More evolving yet to come.
I read every issue of Punisher, and I'm glad you feel you said everything you wanted to say and that you're proud of it.

Great run on the Punisher, can’t wait to see more of him in Weird World if that is indeed happening?
