i love this: "I think I always imagined that state of Zen getting easier to maintain the older I got. But if there’s a magic number where you reach the Age of Perpetually Having All Your Shit Buttoned the Fuck Up, I sure haven’t reached it yet. Instead, I’m starting to think that this is just what life is, chasing those moments again and again, brief as they may be, while gradually adding more and more plates to the routine. Maybe part of growing up is realizing that nobody ever fully has their shit together. Some people may say they do, but those tend to be the folks you gotta watch out for. The rest of us are just forever chasing that unreachable dream of an empty inbox."
this is very wise!

Like everyone else, I'm loving Bug Wars. Congratulations! I haven't finished Namor yet, but I have been thoroughly enjoying that project and very much appreciate your reflection on the multi-artist approach.
I finally was able to meet you last year at planet and can't wait to see you again after another year filled with even more excellent stories that you've crafted! Saturday is my 40th bday so a good steak might be just what i need!
Thank you! It was really great! The highlights were meeting Skottie Young for the 1st time and being fortunate enough that Joe Quesada sketched a Green Goblin for me! He even sang Happy Birthday to me when I picked it up! I hope you were able to find that Animal tiki glass that I showed you near the end of your signing. It didn't dawn on me for a few hours that I could have just gone back and got it for you... I also hope your charity fundraising reached whatever goal you had aspired to this weekend.
I'm so damn happy to finally have all of Scalped in omnibus format. I've owned Scalped in literally every format it's ever been printed in and I've been wanting it in omnibus since I first discovered them around 2013. (Spider-Man by Roger Stern was my first omni.)
I would kill to see Scalped turned into a big prestige TV series like a lot of other comic properties but sadly I don't ever see it happening, for a variety of reasons. One of the saddest is I just don't think there are enough Native American actors (or practically any) to fill out the cast. Maybe someday. One can hope. We'll always have the comics though.
There was a Scalped pilot shot several years ago that didn't ultimately go anywhere. The cast was without a doubt the best part. It was an A-list gathering of the best Native American actors you see working today.
I remember. It was gonna be on WGN, of all networks. Have any of them hit it big though? The only famous Indian actors I can think of are Gil Birmingham, Lily Gladstone, and maybe Graham Greene. Their population is just so small, tragically.
Huh. Didn't know that. After I saw Killers of the Flower Moon I was hoping Hollywood would start hiring more Native American actors and start telling more NA-focused stories.
Have you seen Thunderheart? Was that at all an inspiration for Scalped? I know about Deadwood, The Wire, and State of Grace, but I don't remember you mentioning Thunderheart.
Absolute Superman is brilliant! The art is next level, and bringing Superman back to his roots of champion of the common folks against the tyranny resonates! This series is #1 on my pull list!
Just wanted to say that you are successful in creating a story/tale/world that gives me those momentary breaks in the madness with TMNT, Superman and Bug Wars. Been dealing with a lot and the escape from it all comes from your imagination. Keep on keeping on.
dear jason,
congrats on your current moment of Zen!

So far so good on Bug Wars!
Have been revisiting Scalped. It really holds up!
Easter candy is so incredibly clutch. Did you know they make WARHEADS jellybeans?!
No, Tini. No, I did not. New mission unlocked.

Hope you had a great birthday, Ryan.

Gil Birmingham was Red Crow. Lily Gladstone was Carol. Zahn McClarnon was really incredible as Catcher.
Ugh. McClarnon sounds INSANE. Too bad. :(

Yeah, Thunderheart was in the mix. Along with the Incident at Oglala documentary that was produced alongside it.
Absolute Superman is brilliant! The art is next level, and bringing Superman back to his roots of champion of the common folks against the tyranny resonates! This series is #1 on my pull list!
Thanks, Joe. I'm just getting started.

Thanks, and same to you. Best wishes.
I'm glad you've never revisited Scalped. You shouldn't. Mainly because any return will just make shit even sadder haha
Yeah, I flirted with the idea several years back, but even then it would've been a prequel. The ending was definitely their ending for me.
Loving BUG WARS! You, Mahmud, and the team are killing it!
Thanks, Alex!
Of course!
