See Ya Next Week, New York
Notes on my upcoming con schedule & a tease of impending announcements
Hey. So I’ll be headed to New York City next week for my first appearance at New York Comic Con since the long ago pre-pandemic days when we were all so young and innocent and vibrant. For reference, here’s what I look like right now as I write this:
And of course this is how I looked the last time I appeared at NYCC in 2019:
Yeah, the plague years were hard on all of us.
So if you’re looking for the wizened old whiskey-sipping plant daddy I’ve become since last we met, I’ll be signing and selling books in Artist Alley (BOOTH #G30), alongside the fine folks from Comic Sketch Art, who I just signed with and will be working alongside for all convention appearances going forward.
I’ll post my signing schedule in all the usual places as soon as I have it. But I should be signing at the CSA booth for around 4 hours every day of the con.
I will be charging for signatures for the first time ($5 a book, $30 for CGC), which is a decision I’ve hemmed and hawed over for awhile now, but ultimately I decided it was important for me to have a bigger, more official presence at comic cons moving forward, especially with all the new books I’ll have launching next year. And charging for signatures is a necessary part of making that happen. Hope y’all understand and know how very much I appreciate anyone who picks up one of my books and gives it a read.
So that means you’ll be seeing me at more conventions than in recent years. More on that below.
At NYCC, I’ll be appearing on a few panels, where I’m expecting to have some new projects announced. A couple of those panels have been announced:
METROPOLIS ALL-STARS
Friday, October 13, 10:45–11:45, Room #409
DC’s all-star comic book writers and artists provide exclusive details on what fans can expect in the City of Tomorrow. Panelists include Jason Aaron, Jadzia Axelrod, Joanne Starer, Joshua Williamson.
GOTHAM CITY CONFIDENTIAL
Saturday, October 14, 4:30–5:30, Room #409
Whether it’s in the past, present or future, Gotham City has been the backdrop for some of the greatest stories in DC history featuring Batman, his allies and his foes. Panelists include Jason Aaron, Rafael Grampa, Tini Howard, Jorge Jimenez, Joe Quinones, Christian Ward, G. Willow Wilson, Chip Zdarsky.
My first ever DC panels. Exciting times. In the Gotham panel, I’ll be talking about BATMAN: OFF-WORLD, which starts next month. In the other panel…well, you’ll just have to wait and see.
As things get announced, I’ll post updates here when I can. Should be a wild week.
My 2024 release schedule is shaping up to be absolutely mind-blowing. Someday soon I’ll be able to break down for you the entire list of characters I’m getting to work on at this moment in time, all at once, across multiple companies. It’s a truly insane assortment. Rest assured that dreams are coming true every day here at the home office.
Other Upcoming Appearances
After NYCC, you can find me across the pond in November for Thought Bubble UK, and then at L.A. Comic Con for the first time on December 1-3.
There’s that scary guy again. I’m just now starting to figure out my con schedule for next year, so if you’re a convention who’s brave enough to invite the fellow pictured above to come to your town, contact the folks over at CSA for the details.
Notes & Links & Things & Stuff
—Did I mention that BATMAN: OFF-WORLD starts in November?
—ONCE UPON A TIME AT THE END OF THE WORLD #10 will be out October 25, sporting this eyeball-blazing variant cover by the one and only Tula Lotay. Issue #10 is the final chapter of the surreal roller coaster ride that is Book Two. Be prepared to be broken. So, you know, you’ve got that to look forward to.
—My most recent podcast appearance, courtesy of We Got Issues:
—Did you see the Jane Foster Thor story I did with the amazing Pepe Larraz in last months’ MARVEL AGE #1000? If you missed it, I suggest you seek it out, assuming you like gorgeous things.
—And hey, the second Omnibus collection of my THOR run is also coming your way later this month, and courtesy of Near Mint Condition, here’s a look at the covers by Russell Dauterman and Olivier Coipel, two people pretty fucking good at drawing stuff.
—And I’ll leave you with a tease of what might’ve been. Gil Birmingham as Red Crow and Zahn McClarnon as Catcher from the set of the SCALPED pilot that was shot back in 2017. Such a stellar cast. Maybe someday we’ll talk more about that.
If you’re in New York next week, I hope you’ll say hi. All newsletter subscribers get to touch my beard for free.
Cheers.
